One of the most important things you need to remember is that becoming a foster carer involves the whole family. It is therefore essential that all members of the household are aware of, and happy with the commitment to fostering. Prospective foster carers are recruited from all backgrounds, people who can offer children a safe and stable home will be welcomed. They will be treated fairly and with respect and kept informed throughout the process.

The assessment process is designed to help you, your family and us to be confident that fostering is the right choice for you. Throughout the assessment process you will be given information to help you in making this decision and if at any stage you feel that fostering is not for you, we want you to let us know.

The length of your assessment process depends greatly on your availability and flexibility. Provided there are no unforeseen delays and you are able to attend a preparation course within a couple of months of your initial enquiry, the assessment process through to being approved as a foster carer should take between 3 and 6 months.
